Phoenix averages 111 days a year at 100°F or hotter (the 1991–2020 normal), usually from early May to early October. That much sun is hard on clear coat, dashboards, and leather, and a car that lives outside here shows it sooner.
Monsoon season officially runs June 15 to September 30, and its dust storms leave a film of grit on anything parked outside. Wiped off dry, that grit scratches paint. Washed off properly, it does not.
The City of Mesa's 2025 water quality report puts average hardness at about 12 grains per gallon in the City Zone and 16 in the Eastern and Southern Zones. Water that hard spots paint and glass if it dries on the surface, so plan your rinse and drying around it.
Mesa City Code section 8-5-2 exempts "individual residential car washing" from its storm-drain discharge ban. Commercial and mobile washing are not on that list. A paid detail isn’t residential washing, so plan to keep wash water out of the street and storm drains, for example with a water-reclamation mat or a rinseless or waterless method.
